On December 7, The Chinese American Museum will hold a no-host dinner and engaging discussion at China Islamic Restaurant  (7727 Garvey Avenue, Rosemead, CA 90089) about the Muslim population in China and the role of Islam in Chinese culture. Since the 7th century, Chinese Muslims have been a national ethnic minority, whose population is currently estimated at 200 million in the country, primarily in the northwest province. Chinese halal food evidences the cultural and culinary historical influence of the Silk Road, and brings it to 21st-century Los Angeles. Featured dishes will include ground lamb chuanr kebabs spiced with cumin, traditional green onion sesame bread, stews, and hand-pulled noodle dishes. The dinner and discussion takes place on Dec. 7 from 6-9 p.m. Space is limited. Please purchase and reserve a seat by emailing RSVP@camla.org. The event is part of the groundbreaking Los Angeles / Islam Arts Initiative (LA/IAI), which brings together nearly 30 cultural institutions throughout Los Angeles to tell various stories of traditional and contemporary art from multiple Islamic regions and their significant global diasporas.
