Essay Submittal:

All essays must be submitted by February 28, 2015.

Place essay in an envelope, seal and clearly print the contestant’s first and last name, a contact phone number and email address on the outside of the envelope.  There will be a drop box in the Islah LA conference room. 

 

Essay Criteria: (Three independent raters will judge essays based on the following criteria):

 

• Essay will be 500 words or less, preferable typed and double-spaced

• Response structured in a multi-paragraph essay 

• Response organized to convey ideas

• The essay examines the topic with supporting details

• The topic is expressed clearly and serves as the essay framework

• Essay maintains a formal tone throughout

• Response is thorough with no errors in grammar or spelling
