2015 STEM Plus Pakistan

Students from Lahore and Islamabad will visit and stay at California State University, Dominguez Hills during the month Ramadhan.

They are participating in a 3 week STEM program. During their stay they will have STEM courses on campus, attend lectures off campus, visit local businesses and universities, as well as, several local tourist attractions.

Our delegation with chaperones and staff is around 38 people. We have arranged most of what is needed for a successful program however, we can enhance the program with local student ambassadors and support from the local muslim community. Our youngest participant is 13 and our oldest is 23. We have both males and females participating.

The American team are all from states outside of California including 2 student coordinators from France and one program observer from Rabat, Morocco.

We would be grateful for support in the following areas

1. non-academic Ramadan activites both at our location and at the area masajid.

2. shared and/or sponsored iftar/suhoor meals. We would like the students to feel warm and welcomed to the American Muslim community. We are reaching out to local chefs and restaurants. We have received some committments, Alhamdulillah!

3. Eid-Al-Fitr coordinated event and activities in conjunction with the greater Muslim community.

4. Networking and collaboration with other student Muslims.

5. Caravan service options for excursions around the city, if possible. With a group of this size coordinated transport is logistically challenging. We would like if realiable Muslims with the schedule availability could volunteer to assist in transport to scheduled sites and visits.

6. Qurans and Prayer rugs. We want the participants to travel light. 3 weeks of provisions, gifts, and souvenirs can exceed both arrival and departing luggage allotments. So the fewer items they need to bring the better.

7. Each participant is visiting America for the first time. It would be nice to make new friends from their home cities.

8. Eid gifts: we will arrange for gifts but them so far away from home....local personalized gifts would be outstanding.

9. Organizing and arranging a welcome Iftar and a departure dinner at an area masjid.

We will be on the Campus of CSUDH
