Words Spoken Virtual Concert

Join us on June 6th for an exciting afternoon of live virtual artistic performances to uplift our spirits and provide some moments of joy in these challenging times. Tickets are $30/household.  We thank the following artists:

Omar Offendum is a rapper/poet based in Los Angeles. Known for his unique blend of Hip-Hop & Arabic poetry, he has been featured on prominent world news outlets, lectured at a number of prestigious academic institutions, and helped raise millions of dollars for various humanitarian relief groups. Offendum was recently named a Kennedy Center Citizen Artist Fellow for 2018 / 2019.

Clarissa Bitar is a Palestinian oud musician and composer born and raised in Los Angeles. She graduated from UCSB with a degree in Ethnomusicology. Clarissa has performed nationally and internationally, and has worked with prominent musicians including Simon Shaheen, Omar Offendum, Massari, Elyanna, Rotana, and Mona Haydar. She has a passion for teaching and sharing Arab music in the hopes that younger generations will keep that tradition alive.

Hatefas "Hati" Yop is from Santa Ana, CA. Born to Cham Muslim refugee parents that escaped Cambodia’s killing fields.Hati writes poems mostly about lost loved ones, inter generational trauma, and the beautiful struggle to be steadfast in faith. She has  performed at numerous community open mic spaces. In 2012, she performed at an  international poetry slam competition called Brave New Voices.

Hati use this platform of expression to convey the importance of oral histories and storytelling— diversifying the narrative of what it means to be Asian American and Muslim. Her intention through poetry is to help others craft their narrative for the sake of leaving a legacy behind.
