Each year, thousands of refugees and the underserved vulnerable population resettle in the Unites States to escape conflict, natural disasters, and/or persecution with the hope of seeking safety, freedom and the American Dream. Refugees cannot return to their country of origin because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, and nationality, membership in a particular social group or political opinion; therefore, many come to the United States with nothing but their dignity and the hope to build a better future for their families.
On Saturday, February 6, 2016, Access California Services celebrates its 17th anniversary during its annual gala “Preserving Dignity, Enriching Lives.” The evening at the gala involves a silent auction, a few speeches, a keynote speech, a few awards, a dinner, a short video about the organization’s success in 2015, requests for donations and entertainment. Thousands of guests, local and national corporate sponsors, foundations, government entities, public officials, and celebrities attend the gala to support the cause of successful resettlement; celebrate the accomplishments of recent refugees and the underserved vulnerable population; and recognize the individuals who make a difference in the communities we serve.
